Over the course of the semester, we were asked to keep up this blog for one of my classes; the amount of blogs required measured out to be near one blog post a week with a few extras here and there.
There are many pros to having your own website that you keep updated regularly. It is nice to have a place to direct people if they would like to learn more about you, versus having to tell them about yourself. It is also impressive to have a running list of all of your accomplishmements and awards posted on your site for anyone that might be interested in seeing them.
On the other hand, there are also many cons to keeping up a website or blog. In the beginning I thought that this website was very hard to navigate; eventually I found my way around it and now feel better about creating my own website. As time went on,I found it very easy to forget about the blogs, which left me having to take hours to catch up sometimes. I also found it challenging to find topics that I was interested in blogging about. Actually, it was not so much the issue of finding an interesting topic, it was whether or not I felt that I could portray my opinion on the issues in a way that would not cause a downright uproar.
As you can see, there are pros and cons to keeping up your own website, as there are with anything else. How you choose to design and keep up your website, the topics you choose to blog about, and the professionalism, or lack of, related to your website, is solely up to the writer themselves.
